The Cup Series at the Auto Club Speedway once again fueled the scrutiny of the Next Gen car and everything else surrounding it. This time, it was about the flat tires, and how the cars wouldn’t move, so NASCAR needs to do something about clearing the wreck or the stranded car as quickly as possible.
But journalist Bob Pockrass reported that NASCAR has no intentions or plans to radically bring in a new pit crew mechanism or extension. At least not in the near future.
He tweeted, “NASCAR will continue to use the same procedure when it comes to flat tires (towing driver back to the pits) this week. No changes to the cars yet to address it (wouldn’t think anything changes until Atlanta at earliest).”

This led to a fan suggesting the idea of a mobile pit crew. However, Pockrass clarified even that is out of the question for one very simple reason.
Why can’t NASCAR have mobile pit crews?
Responding to the suggestion of a mobile pit crew, Pockrass replied, “A nascar mobile pit crew would just lead to accusations of favoritism as far as who gets tires changed first and if there is a time difference to change tires for certain drivers.”
“Maybe each manufacturer have a crew?”

Come to think of it, the idea of a mobile pit crew isn’t all that logical at the moment from a feasibility as well as ‘maintaining the fairness’ point of view. But at the same time, the rate at which we’re seeing tire problems, wrecks, and time taken to fix those wrecks, to clear the field, is also worrying.

So it will be interesting to see how NASCAR deals with this problem if it deals with it at all.
