William Byron Candidly Admits What the Two Wins Have Afforded His Team This Season

Having two wins under his belt, and locked into the playoffs, what is on the mind of Hendrick Motorsports’ youngest star, William Byron? Well, the man himself admits that right now, all he is looking to do is to be consistent and build on their superiority.

Along with that, with the state of his season how it is, Byron admits that he can now afford to slip a little here and there.

“I know having the couple wins really affords us the chance to make some mistakes and learn along the way,” he said in a recent interview. “The biggest thing for us is learning this car, and I think we’re doing a decent job at it so far.”

He admitted that it’s “really nice” to have the two wins, something that speaks volumes about his team and that they “know how to run upfront.”

And the #24 driver thinks there’s still a long way to go in the learning process, there are days when they are able to show their superiority over the competition with their car.

William Byron described that even though the results of their team, in general, have “shown good things”, it’s still tough with the Next Gen car, even for them.

“I’d say last year this time we were more dominant than we’ve been so far. But the results and the law of averages have worked out in our favor this year so far,” he added.

The #24 driver described how last season, they were “dominating races”, but they were still finding ways to lose while this year, they’re more “used to winning” and putting themselves into positions to do so, to “capitalize as race teams.”

Byron revealed that they still need to get better on a lot of fronts. “We just gotta kinda keep figuring out this car,” he added.

 “As we get closer to the playoffs, hopefully that’s the case.”
