While most drivers are content with one win per week, William Byron isn’t like most drivers. After driving his truck to the victory lane on Thursday night, the Hendrick driver took his No.24 Camaro to the same area last night.

Byron won his second race of the season as he defended against an aggressive Joey Logano on the final lap.

In his post-race interview, Byron dedicated his second win of the season to his mother.

“This one’s for my mom. The same weekend last year, she had kind of a mini-stroke and was diagnosed with brain cancer. So, it means a lot to have her here,” Byron said. “It’s been a crazy year, but she’s doing great.”

“Thanks, everybody for the support. I kind of felt like she was driving there with me.”

The element that has made all the difference this year for William Byron

Ahead of the race in Martinsville, William Byron spoke of the change in his approach, the one element that he lacked last season, and the one element that he hopes would change his season this year.

“We are being an aggressive team this year because we got a win last year early in the season and didn’t get another win and that is never fun,” Byron said. “You feel like you are constantly trying to catch up with bonus points.”

“So this year, we are just trying to be a little more aggressive. Try to put ourselves in position to win a lot of races,” he added.

William Byron insisted that this season, whenever he shows up to a track, he has one goal in mind – winning. “I don’t really go there to think about finishing a certain spot in the points. It’s nice to get stage points but at the end of the day, if we are in a position in the top five we are going to try and win the race,” he said.

“I think it’s a mentality shift for us early in the season knowing that those bonus points are so important.”
