Recently, Hendrick Motorsports driver William Byron spoke to Racing America on a few subjects. Among them, he talked about the Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown. He confessed that it was exciting and he even finished 2nd in the race. All of this happened in spite of running on the edge of the Top 10 for most of the night. Byron recalled an incident that occurred in front of him, involving Josh Berry.

He said, “Josh Berry and Lee Pulliam got together, and I was teammates with Josh. It was funny on my perspective to kind of watch them have to get out of the track with security and stuff. Lee Pulliam is such a big name up there in South Boston. I finished that race in 2nd and I just remember going through tech and nobody really cared. So it was kind of funny.

At the moment, Byron is hard at work preparing for the 2022 Cup Series season. The same is true for all other drivers, as they will be racing with the Next Gen cars. Fortunately for everyone, there are still two more pre-season tests coming up in January. This will allow NASCAR to confirm the rules package for the remaining races and iron out last-minute kinks.

In all honesty, 2021 was a slightly disappointing campaign, so William Byron will be hoping to change that. He knows that he needs to pull up his socks in order to try and challenge teammates, Chase Elliott and Kyle Larson. However, the #24 driver will also be wary of teams like Joe Gibbs Racing, Team Penske, and Stewart-Haas Racing.
