William Byron Suggests Denny Hamlin Is a “Moron” for Infamous Altercation With Hendrick Motorsports Teammate Alex Bowman Last Year

Sure, the reason behind Hendrick Motorsports’ dominance is that they have four supremely talented guys behind the wheels of pretty fast cars. It’s not rocket science. However, what makes them who they are, what makes them a team, is their chemistry, being there for each other through thick and thin, something that William Byron also recently proved, albeit not so blatantly.

In a recent interview with The Athletic, the Martinsville winner was asked whether he’d disrupt the celebration of a driver who wrecked him to win the race.

And it was in the reply that one can interpret as him suggesting or pointing his fingers at something that happened last year at Martinsville, something that involved his teammate, Alex Bowman, and a certain Denny Hamlin.

“I guess we had that a couple times last year,” Byron said in his response. “You know, probably not — because I’d feel like a moron. I don’t want to be in the way and I don’t want to be part of the story.”

The youngest of the four Hendrick Motorsports drivers became the only driver this season so far who has two wins. William Byron took the checkered flag in Atlanta and did so again at Martinsville most recently.

After his second win though, Byron suggested that their team might very well have found the key to unlocking the new Next Gen car, something other teams are still struggling with.

“We’re figuring out what makes us tick and this new car was a chance for us to reset and kinda, take a new approach and feel like, it’s really paid dividends for us,” Byron said after the Martinsville race.

“All the things we’re doing behind the scenes to make sure we’re ready for Sundays is really helping.”
