Austin Cindric was on his way and one lap away from a record-equalling fourth consecutive win in the NASCAR Xfinity Series on Saturday. However, Brandon Jones had other plans.
In a thrilling race at Kansas Speedway, Austin Cindric had won two stages and was moments away from the record as he led the field before Jones came in out of nowhere.
Jones restarted in seventh place in overtime and quickly raced his way through, to come in just behind Cindric.

Austin Cindric denied in the final moments of the race
Driving in his Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota No. 19 car, Brandon Jones showed nerves of steel to edge Cindric who was in the No. 22 Team Penske Ford. Harrison Burton, who at one point led the race before a caution came out, finished third.
NASCAR posted a video on YouTube of the final lap in overtime, where Cindric can be seen leading for the most of it before Jones swooped in.

Jones not only ended Cindric’s winning run, but ended his poor form prior to this race as well. Coming into Kansas, he had a seventh-place finish and four failed finishes before that.
Cindric, who came so close to the record, credited Jones for the victory. “Brandon did everything right, I probably got too caught up in trying to clear the (No.) 39, not focus on the runs.
“The dude jumped the restart zone by two car lengths, which was a bit unfortunate,” Cindric said after the race.

He even lauded Harrison Burton for his fight. “Well, I think to give credit where credit is due, Harrison Burton was the fastest guy today. He runs me down twice under green flag, and I hate for him to lose it like that, but that’s racing, there’s going to be late-race cautions.”
