Joey Logano gets real about his chances at MIS, mentioning the intricacies of the technical track
Now for the young fans out there, the D-shaped 2-mile Superspeedway might seem like your average high-speed speedway favoring the fastest driver and car to come out victorious. But, the track is anything but easy, even the fastest of the cars might not be able to hang on at the tight technical track.

Coming to the recent happenings, speaking to the pit reporter during the brief interval brought by the light showers, reigning champ, Logano’s latest comments just show the intricacies of the speedway. Talking about his chances, the #22 driver said,
“I think we’re okay, you know, seems like there’s a couple of cars that are really strong at practice, we did a lot of changes to our cars so hopefully it’s better from a speed perspective but just so many other things here at Michigan that takes the win, right?”
Further, he added to his point, mentioning how unforgiving the track can be if you become careless, saying, “You have race strategy, restarts have to be spot on, so there’s lot that happens from pretty much when you go to the gears then you come to turn 2 and turn 3 at these restarts that you can gain 5 spots, you can lose 20 really really quick so just got to be on our game.”

Balance is the magic formula here at Michigan, one that the Stewart-Haas Racing veteran and Logano’s fellow Ford driver, Kevin Harvick knows a thing or two about. After all, the #4 Ford’s outright speed and momentum have earned the driver his 6 career wins at the iconic track, bringing the 47-year-old driver his 60th career win here last summer.
Fast forward to today, though the Penske driver is confident about his run, he did not shy away from highlighting how technical and unforgiving the speedway is.

Dark clouds loom over as the Fords lose their edge at Michigan
Michigan, the once thriving automobile hub of the world is home to some of the biggest names in racing. Roger Penske, the proud Team Penske owner, has his roots deep in Michigan. While the Cup Series action reaches the 86-year-old veteran’s home track, things certainly don’t look good for the Fords despite being the heavy favorites.
As mentioned earlier, even the veteran, Happy Harvick couldn’t emulate his previous performance at the track that earned him the win. The SHR driver started the race 22nd whereas the reigning champ, Joey Logano, and his teammate Ryan Blaney were the only Fords inside the 10 starting the race.

While Ford’s ability to put on a blitz, gather momentum, and keep it throughout has made them a huge favorite to ace the track, the manufacturer’s inconsistency certainly has cast a shadow, making Fords’ situation all the more dire, especially compared to their consistent rivals, the Toyotas.
