Chase Elliott got surrounded by controversies following his snowboarding injury last week, which ruled him out of the competition for at least six weeks. The 2020 Cup Series champion’s injury gave rise to a debate about whether drivers should be allowed to take part in adventure activities off the track that pose a threat of injury. Moreover, the NASCAR fraternity is also deeply invested in the discussion of whether Chase Elliott deserves to receive a waiver or not. Recently, Bubba Wallace‘s spotter Freddie Kraft offered an interesting suggestion amid the Chase Elliott waiver saga.

Freddie Kraft on the waiver situation of Chase Elliott

During the conversation, Freddie Kraft said, “Interestingly enough, I did hear. I listened to The Teardown last night and I thought your waiver position was very interesting.” Meanwhile, Jordan Bianchi and Kraft agreed that the Hendrick Motorsports driver would definitely receive a waiver from NASCAR. However, Bianchi was not too happy about the possibility as he claimed NASCAR gave away the waivers to drivers quite easily.

Moreover, the renowned journalist felt that NASCAR needed to be a little tougher in its approach regarding waiver issues. Bianchi stressed that Elliott’s injury happened off the track and away from motorsports. Hence, he believed the racing body needed to be more strict in handing out waivers.

Further, Freddie Kraft said, ” Yeah, I mean, you’re never gonna draw the line. You know what I mean. Like so instead of saying we’re gonna give out waivers yes or no. Like just say you can’t take any weeks off.” Kraft believes that the main purpose of waivers is to give the driver with five or more wins the liberty to avoid going to Hawaii in the middle of the season.

However, Bianchi argued that such a situation was an uncommon sight, given the commitments teams and drivers have with their sponsors. Thus, the debate if Elliott should receive a waiver or not continues to be a topic of concern for many experts, while the injured driver tries his best to recover as soon as possible.
