UFC fighter Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson was recently in awe of stock car racing. This is because Thompson attended the epic Coca-Cola 600 in Charlotte, and it was there that he met, who he thought, will be the future champion in NASCAR, a certain fella that goes by the name of Ty Gibbs.

For those who don’t know, and there’s a small chance that you won’t, but still, Ty Gibbs is an Xfinity Series racer who races for Joe Gibbs Racing. He’s the grandson of, yes, you guessed it, Joe Gibbs. But beyond that, Gibbs is a pretty decent racecar driver who has given more than a glimpse of his tremendous potential and promise.

“Got to experience my first @nascar race live this past weekend at the #cocacola600 and man it was amazing! The cars and crews are on another level,” the caption on Thompson’s post read.

In a recent interview, Joe Gibbs, the owner of Joe Gibbs Racing, clarified the future of their star driver Kyle Busch and the rumors about his grandson replacing Busch in the #18.

The owner revealed that with Ty Gibbs; they have other plans, that they want to keep him in the Xfinity Series for one more year so that they “don’t rush him.”?

?We want to be real careful, take our time, and so really our goal was to keep him in Xfinity for two years, and so this is his first year really,? Gibbs said. ?I think he?s had 23 or 24 Xfinity races, so the game plan is two years for sure in Xfinity.”

As for Kyle Busch’s renewal and whether he’ll stay at JGR post 2022, Gibbs described that they feel “really confident” with that. “We?re going to have that (No. 18) car squared away, sponsorship-wise, and we?re trying to work on our deal right now with Kyle,? he added.
