For the longest time, the NBA rumor mill has been buzzing incessantly with speculations about potential trade destinations for Pascal Siakam. They persisted since before the season even began, and it is only recently that they came to a halt. Teams such as the Golden State Warriors and Dallas Mavericks were consistently mentioned in connection with Siakam. However, the twist in the tale revealed that the Toronto Raptors shook on a deal with the Indiana Pacers.

In exchange for Siakam, Toronto acquired guard Bruce Brown and forward Jordan Nwora, along with two first-round picks in 2024 and a protected first-round pick in 2026. The unexpected move left other teams scrambling to explore alternative avenues to strengthen their rosters, especially with the trade deadline at bay.

The Dallas Mavericks have maintained a prominent presence in the ongoing rumor mill. Now, they continue to do so by making waves in the news regarding their interest in Kyle Kuzma. NBA insider Marc Stein reports that the Mavs are actively reaching out to the Wizards and exploring potential trade possibilities before the deadline.

The Mavericks are actively seeking opportunities to address a big man vacancy. With Pascal Siakam out, Kyle Kuzma, despite not fitting the traditional big man profile, emerges as a promising solution. Additionally, Kuzma aligns with the Mavericks’ preference, as Mark Cuban expressed the team’s desire for a player capable of creating off the dribble.

With plenty of basketball ahead of him, Kuzma is averaging 21.9 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 4.2 assists midway through the season. In exchange for Kuzma, the Wizards are seeking a minimum of two first-round picks. Furthermore, they plan to aim at higher-value picks when compared to the Raptors’ deal with Indiana for Siakam.

Why didn’t the Warriors trade for Siakam?

Before his trade to Indiana, the Golden State Warriors were one of the teams interested in acquiring Pascal Siakam, according to Sam Amick from The Athletic. His potential addition could have provided a significant boost to the struggling squad, bringing in an All-Star-caliber player to address some of their challenges. However, Siakam did not share the same enthusiasm with the team, specifically about committing beyond this NBA season with them.
