Jrue Holiday has had an unforgettable summer. First, he won an NBA title with the Celtics. This was followed by his second gold medal in Paris playing for Team USA. Now, he is managing the counter at the ‘golden’ Raising Cane’s newly launched outlet in Boston. Believe it or not, these are all his dreams.

As a child, Holiday initially had an innate skill in bagging groceries. He even wanted a job at Vons so that he could have extra money for the movies, but his mother refused. He even shared this thought with his wife, Lauren Holiday, dubbing it his “dream job”. With Raising Cane’s 28th anniversary launch in Boston, a store that is completely gold and glamorous, the defensive genius got his opportunity to fulfil his dreams.

Jared Weiss, the Celtics reporter for The Athletic visited the establishment and was ecstatic to have his order received from NBA greatness. “Jrue Holiday’s wife told me one of his dream jobs as a kid was to bag groceries. First day back from vacation and I’m at a gold-covered Raising Cane’s watching Jrue Holiday work the register. Dream almost come true,” he wrote on X.

Holiday wasn’t the only celebrity present at the venue. In celebration of the popular fast food chain’s 28th anniversary songwriter JVKE was also present. Additionally, the fast food chain offered several other benefits to visiting customers, including a chance to win an actual gold bar, nuggets, shoes and other accessories.

Raising Cane’s aligning their mission with Lauren and Jrue Holiday’s works

In every community they have called home, Jrue Holiday and his wife Lauren’s impact has been nothing short of immense. In 2020, Holiday dedicated the remainder of his season’s salary aimed at tackling systematic racism and societal inequalities. In addition, the couple also launched the Jrue & Lauren Social Impact Fund.

Through the organization, they have helped bolster several minority-owned businesses. As of January, they had awarded 134 grants to multiple business initiatives as a method to improve and educate the local communities.

One of the grantees shared their story on the organization’s website. Compton Vegan’s Lemel Durrah shared, “The JLH Fund grant helped me to secure a food truck and continue to remain in business and served Compton and surrounding cities labeled as food desserts and swamps with plant-based dishes”. They are just one of the many heart-warming stories the Holiday’s made possible.

It seems like Raising Cane’s is learning from the precedent set by the powerful couple. As part of their 28th anniversary, and the opening of their store falling on August 28th, they will donate $28 million dollars to local communities in the coming years. It’s a brilliant initiative to not only commemorate their booming success but also make a positive impact on society.
