Tyrese Maxey’s rise to the top of the 76ers ranks has been long-awaited. His journey with the team began with his debut in 2020 when he was mostly a playing option. His moment to shine came when Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons had to sit out due to injuries. In his first NBA start, Maxey had a strong performance with 39 points in 44 minutes on 18-of-33 shooting.

He only continued to grow as James Harden joined in 2021. With his help, he grew more into the role of a guard, assisting him in the back. With Harden gone, the 23-year-old has only grown even more and is now the second best, right after Embiid.

The former Philadelphia coach spoke highly on the young star’s performance against Indiana Pacers on Saturday night. The point guard put up his career-high 50 points, with 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Talking about it postgame, Lynam said, “Nobody can stop Tyrese Maxey. Not even the top-rated defensive guards in the league, Tyrese Haliburton“.

Haliburton was also at his best performance tonight as he put up 25 points with 17 assists and a rebound. This is his best after his 43 points-12 assists match against the Charlotte Hornets. He became the first player in Pacers history to put up at least 40+ points and 10+ assists in a game.

The Sacramento Kings selected Haliburton as the 12th overall pick in the first round of the 2020 NBA draft. In his debut match against the Denver Nuggets, he put up 12 points, 4 assists, 2 rebounds, and a block in a 124–122 overtime win. He finished his rookie season as the third in the voting for Rookie of the Year and was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team. He found his place the best with the Pacers when he was traded in 2021. This season he has been averaging 23.6 points with 4.3 rebounds and 11.6 assists while shooting 50.4% from the field.

Maxey, on the other hand, has found his spot amongst the Sixers only this year, thanks to James Harden leaving. He quickly filled the gap and has been posting explosive numbers that have helped Philadelphia win 8 games in a row this season. He averages 25.9 points with 5.3 rebounds, and 7.5 assists while shooting 48.0% from the field. And this number is only set to grow as we move further into the season.
