In his 21-year NBA career, LeBron James has posterized many players. However, his iconic poster dunk over Jason Terry might have been the sweetest one in his career. Amidst the intense rivalry between the Miami Heat and the Celtics in 2013, a nationally televised game at TD Garden witnessed a defining moment. In the second quarter, a turnover by Terry set the stage. Mario Chalmers seized the opportunity, passing to Norris Cole, who then orchestrated a perfect alley-oop to LeBron James. The result – a thunderous dunk that left Terry sprawled on the court.

The monstrous dunk gained so much traction that Terry’s Wikipedia page received an unusual update, humorously citing his cause of death as “being viciously dunked on” by LeBron. However, Norris Cole recently unveiled the backstory behind Jason Terry’s evisceration.

Indeed, the Terry-James rivalry had been brewing for a few years. It started in 2006 when Terry’s Dallas Mavericks were 2-0 in the NBA Finals against the Heat and were hot favorites to win it all that season. However, Miami splashed water all over Terry’s dream by winning their first-ever championship. Terry then took his sweet revenge by beating Miami 4-2 in the 2011 NBA Finals. After winning it all in 2011, JT went on a hating spree, going so far as to say that his mission was to “kill” the Miami Heat.

According to Norris Cole, all this trash talk paved the way for the humiliating posterization. “JT beat them [Miami Heat]. In his mind, he feel like he own them. He can say what he wanna say. He got his championship tattoo,” said the 35YO point guard.

How did LeBron react to the iconic dunk?

Before the 2011 NBA Finals, Jason Terry claimed that Bron would not be able to effectively guard him for the entire series. Terry’s predictions manifested as the Dallas Mavericks, led by Dirk Nowitzki, swept the Heat en route to their first championship. However, LeBron James successfully put his assertions to rest after hammering a monstrous dunk that will go down in history as one of James’ best plays.

Speaking on the dunk, LeBron James reflected, “I’ve had a chance to [review] it, and it was one of my better ones. The fact that it happened to J.T. made it that much sweeter. Because we all know J.T. and he talks too much sometimes. And I’m glad it happened to him.”
