Jaylen Brown has signed his Supermax extension and became one of the highest-paid athletes in the NBA. Thus, fans around the league, and the Boston Celtics fans in particular, expect him to be the superstar worthy of that contract. With the new season opener against the New York Knicks, the Celtics fans are letting Jaylen know their expectations. And he is not having it easy.

The Celtics vs. the Knicks game should not have been this close. In the fourth quarter of the season opener, they were just separated by one point in the 9 minute mark. As expected, the Celtics fans were venting out their frustrations. They want a dominant superstar performance from Jaylen Brown, night in and night out. Anything less would rile up his fans. One fan goes a step further and maligns Jaylen by calling his contract a scam.

The Celtics fans have been riding with Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum for long now. They know they have a special duo, but repeated post season failures are testing their patience.

Are the fans over reacting to something tactically done by the Celtics? Although Jaylen had only scored 11 points, he had 6 rebounds and 5 assists to go along with it. A double-double and still this Celtics mainstay is incurring the wrath of the fans. But if he does not take a step back, the recent additions to the team, like Kristaps Porzingis, how are they going to impact the game?

Kristaps Porzingis scored 30 points with 8 rebounds, while Jayson Tatum had 34 points to go along with 11 rebounds and 4 assists. When there are 2 players having a great game, why would Jaylen insert himself to disturb their rhythm when he can contribute in other ways? This will be a completely different season for the Celtics, not only in terms of the talent but also in terms of their philosophy. And the Celtics fans would have to be more patient.
