The Golden State Warriors have had more championships than any other franchise since 2010. They changed the way basketball is played and the current teams try to emulate their model. An all-purpose shooter at Point like Stephen Curry plays the central role in their success. Building a squad largely through a draft around him paved the way for brilliant chemistry. However, because of their style of play, many claim that they have ruined the game, making it obsessed with three-point shooting.

Stephen Curry has given his opinion about that point of view. He has also shared his thoughts about the NBA fanbase that was cheering against him in the Finals.

Did Stephen Curry and the Warriors ruin the league?

Last year in July, LA Mag asked the sharpshooting phenom if he ruined basketball through his three-point-heavy approach. He replied, “Anytime you change or disrupt the way a game is played or the way something’s been done for years, for decades, there’s always going to be people that love it and people that hate it”.

No one before Curry had dreamt of touching the 300 three-pointers made in a season, let alone 400. Therefore, when he made 272 threes in 2012-13 breaking Ray Allen’s 269 records from 2005 to 06 season, floodgates were open.

Then he did something no one imagined, hitting 402 in a season, during the 2015-16 window. A record intact since then.

These records came when the Guard had also developed a brilliant in-between and rim-based game. Thanks to that and another sharpshooter, Klay Thompson, a reliable defender, Draymond Green, alongside Wings like Andrew Wiggins, Harrison Barnes, and Superstar Kevin Durant, they won four championships.

However, some teams also got the better of them as they lost twice in the Finals and multiple times within the Western Conference.

When he sat down with Gilbert Arenas on his show “Gil’s Arena”, he discussed the fanbase of teams that he played against in many fierce Playoff series. Talking about his ability to embarrass players, the host of the Josiah Johnson asked him, ”How do you feel about being the most likable a**hole?

The Guard had a crisp reply.

He talks about the Cavaliers, Raptors, and Celtics as the Finals rivals and Western Conference showdowns that had epic battles.

He says “That’s what you want”.

Speaking about playing in the hostile arenas of his rivals, he states, “You wanna be playing in the games that matter; building up a little equity and in terms of other fanbases minds”.

Diving into the flip side, he mentions, “But we have been on the other side of it too. So you get some, you take some. It’s all love at the end of the day. I appreciate the position of being elected a likable a**hole”.

As Curry gives his dues to the rivals’ fandom, will he be able to see more of such action next season?
