The 2022-23 NBA season was not the best for All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving. While his on-court performance was what fans have come to expect of him, it was his off-court antics that landed him in more controversy. Though Irving found a new home with the Dallas Mavericks, it was not before a drama-filled stint in Brooklyn. During his time with the Nets, Kyrie Irving was constantly slammed and criticized for his words and actions.

This ultimately led to the 162.58 billion worth Nike brand severing ties with the eight-time All-Star. But now, it looks like Irving may be back in the sneaker game with a new company backing him up.

Kyrie Irving‘s last year with the Brooklyn Nets saw him get canceled by fans and media for months. Following some controversial comments by the 31-year-old found himself in hot water. His team suspended the All-Star point guard and he was even asked by the team?s owner to fulfill a list of tasks in order to return to play.

But to top it all off, amid all the drama, Nike decided to drop Irving as a client and severed their ties with him. Irving?s production of his latest signature sneaker with Nike too was stopped and never made it to the market.

Now, according to Shams Charania, ?Mavericks? Kyrie Irving has signed a five-year endorsement deal with Chinese sportswear brand ANTA, plus the unique position of Chief Creative Officer at the company, industry sources told @TheAthletic @Stadium. Irving?s management company, A11Even, negotiated the deal.?

The brand has already signed NBA champion Kevon Looney and various other role players like Hamidou Diallo and Alex Caruso. But Irving will certainly be the hallmark player for their basketball shoes.

Irving’s issues with the Brooklyn Nets

Kyrie Irving?s final year with the Brooklyn Nets did not end positively. Irving was made to sit out of the team’s lineup for most of the year the previous season after refusing to take the COVID-19 vaccination.

The following season, Irving was slammed by fans for being anti-Semitic. The reason behind that was a film that Irving shared online with his fans. The movie was perceived as antisemitic by many and fans thought Irving’s support of it was immoral.

This not only led to a serious backlash in the online community but also suspension from the team, severed ties with Nike, and more. However, now that Irving is about to start a new season with his new team, it seems like he is ready to put all those things behind him.
