Luka Doncic has established himself at the forefront of the league in just a few seasons. While his NBA career began with the Dallas Mavericks, the Slovenian phenom was hooping way before that. He started his career playing for legendary Spanish Club Real Madrid. He led the team to the EuroLeague title in 2018 and was awarded the EuroLeague MVP honors for his exemplary performance.

Meanwhile, the Dallas Mavericks will take on Real Madrid in WiZink Center on Tuesday. However, this might not be the last time we see him play on Spanish soil, as the superstar guard looks forward to donning the all-white Read Madrid jersey once again.

After playing the first two exhibition games in Abu Dhabi, the Dallas Mavericks now look forward to locking horns with Luka’s former team, Real Madrid. The 24YO spoke to the press ahead of the “most special” game of his career. He said, “I wouldn’t be where I am now if it wasn’t for Real Madrid. I learned everything here: speaking, studying and playing basketball. I’d like to take a lot of teammates with me: Rudy, Llull, a coach, a physio”. And this isn’t the only thing he had to say. He expressed his wishes further.

He further added, “I’ve got a lot of great memories and I’m happy to be back. If I return to Europe one day, I’m sure it will be to Real Madrid. That’s 100%“.

Luka Doncic might be looking forward to back to his roots at some point in his career. However, this move will not be materializing anytime soon. This is because the Mavs guard still has four years left on his five-year, $215 million contract with the franchise.

After finishing 11 in the Western Conference last season, the Mavericks made major offseason moves to fortify their roster. However, it looks like the new additions might take some time to fully adjust to the team, as the Mavs lost both the preseason games against the Wolves. The third time might be the charm for the Luka Doncic-led Mavericks. But this is not what makes the game special.

The Slovenian sensation has been waiting for this opportunity for months. “I’ve been looking forward to this game for months now, and it’s going to be one of the most special games of my career, maybe the most,” gushed Luka Doncic.

While Luka has been putting up a show with his performance at the exhibition games, the same cannot be said for his teammates. Kyrie Irving posted just two points in 14 minutes during the team’s first outing. While the team’s defense looks very weak, their three-point shooting has also taken a toll. They shot just 14-of-46 at 30.4% from beyond the arc in the preseason so far. Therefore, the team might be looking to turn things around in their next matchup against Real Madrid.
