It has been nearly three decades but fans have not seen an expansion happen in the NBA. The last expansion took place in 1995 and since then, there have only been rumors. Though there are a few legends and even current players who are working to add a few more teams to the league, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander may have something else in mind entirely.

Another desire James has been chasing is adding a Las Vegas team to the NBA via expansion. The league has not shown interest in any expansion but there have always been rumors flying around.

Will the league see an expansion soon?

The last two teams that were included in the NBA via expansion were two teams from Canada. That happened 28 years ago, back in 1995, being the Toronto Raptors and the Vancouver Grizzlies.

However, the Vancouver Grizzlies eventually moved to Memphis in 2001, forming the Memphis Grizzlies. But Shai-Gilgeous Alexander?s recent request would mean that the NBA may repeat history that happened 28 years ago.
