7-time NBA All-Star Damian Lillard has been in a tricky spot ever since the end of the 2022-23 NBA season. The Portland TrailBlazers superstar formally requested a trade months ago during NBA Free Agency. He also has a very specific team in mind. It is the Jimmy Butler-led Miami Heat who made the NBA Finals in 2023.

Despite these complications, Lillard has tried to stay positive during this while. He has shared a number of posts on Instagram thanking his family and surroundings. A few hours ago, he shared an emotional message for a special person in his life.

Lillard had a very supportive mother growing up. Although his parents were divorced after a tumultuous marriage, Gina Johnson and Houston Lillard had a good relationship after their divorce for the sake of their children.
Taking to Instagram, Damian Lillard shared a very emotional Instagram post with a heartfelt message for his mother. “I would pick my mother to be my mother again in any and every life time. What a blessing“, read the post. Not only his mother, but Dame’s father also had a huge role in shaping his son’s life. According to her, Houston Lillard taught his son to be a man.

Their teachings bore fruit as the Trailblazers drafted Dame Dolla as the 6th overall pick in the 2012 NBA draft. Despite not belonging to a very well-known university, Lillard worked hard and turned into the superstar he is today.
What’s going on between Lillard and the Heat?
It has been months since Lillard formally asked for a trade out of Portland. Despite the delay, he is still adamant on making the move to South Beach.
According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, there are only two training camps the 2013 Rookie of the Year would turn up for. The Heat and the Trailblazers. It was also revealed that the two teams might re-engage in trade talks ahead of the start of training camp.
