Whenever an icon bids goodbye to the league, it’s an emotional moment. Recently Andre Iguodala decided to call it quits after spending 19 years in the NBA. Although he played for three other franchises, the Golden State Warriors is the closest to his heart. That is why he decided to join them at the last stretch of his career.

Now that he has decided to retire from the league, his love for the franchise and its superstar Stephen Curry made him reconsider his decision. Although he did not act on it, Iguodala’s departure from the franchise will surely mark the end of an era.

Andre Iguodala’s Connection with Stephen Curry

Anyone with any association with the Warriors knows the value of Curry. The 35-year-old is the biggest superstar of the franchise and arguably one of the greatest to ever play the game. Needless to say, Iguodala also shares a very special bond with the 4x NBA champion. More importantly, his affection is rightfully reciprocated as Curry, on several occasions has said that Iguodala helped change the fate of the franchise. So when it was time for the 39-year-old to part ways, his love for Curry and their new signee Chris Paul almost made him stay.

Talking about his relationship with Curry and the Warriors, Iguodala expressed his true feelings. He said the Warriors have “always been gracious” in their conduct. ” I have a spot in my heart for Steph. That?s always been my man,” Iguodala added. Talking about his reconsidering the retirement decision, he said “I would have loved to play with Chris Paul”. “He and I spoke a few times and been trying to be open to whenever he needed me to help him transition on everything that goes on within the organization,” he said about his conversation with Paul.

The 2015 Finals MVP’s contributions cannot be overlooked as he changed the attitude of the team. More importantly, he ensured his presence whenever the team needed him.

For an athlete of his caliber, it is always better if they end their career on a high. However, unlucky for Iguodala, his last stretch was marred with injuries. He missed 39 games at the beginning of the season for the Warriors. When he eventually made his debut in January, he was soon taken out due to a wrist fracture.

Regardless of these issues, his legacy for the Dub Nation is set in stone and that will remain intact forever.
