Andrew Wiggins’ X-Factor Makes or Breaks Warriors’ Championship Odds, per Draymond Green

Canadian basketball player Andrew Wiggins has been a member of the Golden State Warriors for four seasons now. During the first three, he established himself as a lead scorer for the team, averaging 18 points per game. However, his performance during the current season has dropped drastically, with his points and field goal percentage taking a big hit. While there has been some improvement during the past few games, fans have started questioning whether the same will be enough to make or break the Warriors chances to make the playoffs.
In the aftermath of the recent matchup between the Warriors and the Grizzlers, Draymond Green was seen engaged in a presser with several media members. During the same, the player was asked about the Domino effect within the Warriors when Wiggins is playing well. Without thinking for long, Green replied that Wiggins’ good performance “helps everybody”. He praised the player’s offensive capability, stating “When he’s driving to the rim, he can make defenses collapse”. Green stated that he and the rest of the Warriors believed they didn’t need to worry about Wiggins as long as he possessed that “aggressiveness” and shot-making capability he is known for.
“When he’s taking those shots and playing with that aggressiveness, we’re capable of winning a championship,” said Green.

The 4x NBA All-Star highlighted that Wiggins’ lack of shooting may not be attributed to the player himself, since the Warriors are filled with players with excellent offensive capabilities. However, Green believes his teammate can rise to the occasion if given the chance.
“He’s more than capable of creating offense for any team”, Green said to conclude the discussion. Many factors can be attributed to Wiggins’ recent lack of scoring. He has been dealing with some personal issues off the court, which may or may not be causing him not to keep his head in the game. Whatever reasons may exist, many people, including Warriors coach Steve Kerr, are not shying away from placing certain expectations on the player.

During a recent interview with Mark Willard and Dan Wibley, Steve Kerr discussed his expectations for Andrew Wiggins. With the next few games looking to be a make-or-break opportunity for the team’s championship chances, the head coach knew exactly what was needed from the 29-year-old.
“We want Andrew to be more aggressive,” said Kerr. “I think the more aggressive he is looking for a shot, the better… I think sometimes Andrew gets lost… so I think I’ve got to do a better job of keeping him engaged and really get him in positions to attack and to be successful.”
