The past few hours must have seen television viewers alternating between two different channels. Even though the Los Angeles Lakers were facing off against the Minnesota Timberwolves, the ongoing Oscar ceremony would also have been too hard to miss. Meanwhile, the players of the respective teams had no choice but to continue with the game. While some of them would be looking forward to catching a ceremony later or watching one of the nominated movies tonight, Lakers star Anthony Davis would not be among them.

In the aftermath of the game, Anthony Davis was approached by an ESPN reporter and asked whether the player was planning to watch “any movie on Oscars night”. Davis took a moment before replying “No”. When asked why, he stated that since it was his birthday tomorrow, the major chunk of his time would go towards a dual celebration.  “Celebrate the win tonight, celebrate my birthday tomorrow, and then get ready for second (game) on Tuesday” replied Davis.

Anthony Davis delivered one of his best performances during the recent game. While LeBron James led the charge in terms of points, it was the recently turned 31-year-old who created NBA history by becoming the first player to score 25+ points, 25+ rebounds, 5+ steals, and 5+ assists in a single game. His monstrous gameplay during the 4th quarter helped the Lakers move from a 92-92 tie to a 120-109 win. Having achieved so much in one day, it makes sense for Davis to drown himself in celebration rather than engage in an Oscars theme movie night.

Anthony Davis receives a heartwarming surprise on his birthday

The fact that Anthony Davis pulled off his recent feat mere hours before his birthday only made the night better. While the rest of the Lakers wanted to share in this beautiful moment, the player’s parents also wanted to do their part in memorably marking the occasion.

The official X account of the Los Angeles Lakers recently uploaded a video. It featured Anthony Davis, Sr. standing outside the team’s locker room with a cake. It had a basketball design on the top and had “Happy Birthday AD!” written alongside it. The rest of the Lakers erupted in cheers as he entered the room. As heartwarming as the moment was, Davis Sr. didn’t hesitate in roasting his son’s age by jokingly stating, “I don’t know if we can put that many candles in here”.
