Anthony Edwards arrived during the season and now demands respect on his name in the playoffs. In what is unarguably the Minnesota Timberwolves‘ best season of modern-day basketball, Edwards surpassed franchise legend Kevin Garnett in Game 4.

Continuing his impressive run, Edwards has surpassed Garnett in the Timberwolves’ history of most 30-point games during the playoffs. Also, he started the series off in style, sporting the iconic finger sleeve that was popularized by KG, adding a unique touch to his performance.

Edwards crossed Kevin Garnett just a game after matching his record. He also helped the Wolves gain a 3-0 series advantage in the same game, marking the most dominant position T-Wolves have had in a series.

Now, as Edwards overtakes KG in Game 4, he also breaks the timeline it took Kevin Garnett to propel Wolves into contention. First, it took Garnett 22 games to mark his first 30-point playoff game, all while needing 40+ games to mark seven such games with the Wolves. It took Anthony Edwards 32 fewer games to surpass him.

Moreover, KG’s first instance of entering the second-round series came in the 2003-04 season, his eighth with the Wolves. He had already played 34 playoff games before that. For Edwards, the feat comes in just his third playoff stint, that too with a fashionable sweep of one of the most talented backcourts in the league.

As Edwards and the T-Wolves advance to the next round, their nearest goal must be to advance to witness the NBA finals at least. It will skyrocket Edwards’ stock in the league and make the present version of the Wolves the best-ever squad in franchise history.

Anthony Edwards is on the edge of breaking another Wolves’ scoring record

Anthony Edwards scored 40 points with a 13 of 23 shooting with 9 rebounds and 6 assists. 7 of his shots came from the three-point line as he toughed it out with 2 blocks on the other side of the floor. Now, alongside surpassing Garnett, Edwards matches Sam Cassell’s record for 40-point playoff games (2).

Given Anthony Edwards’ surge, it is ideal to assume that it does not take him much time before topping another franchise record. He has already touched the 40-point mark 10 times in the past, four of which came during the current season.

The only player who leads Ant in the Timberwolves’ history of 40-point games is his teammate Karl-Anthony Towns, who has done it 13 times in the regular season.

Anthony Edwards is now in for a relaxing stretch. They will soon meet the winner of the Los Angeles Lakers vs. Denver Nuggets first-round series, which is currently led by the defending champions (3-1).
