The Golden State Warriors are in a rut; the Dubs, who entered the season with the hopes of winning a championship, are currently 8th in the Western Conference with a 25-19 record. As if this wasn’t enough trouble for the historic franchise, Jimmy Butler has suffered a season-ending ACL injury, forcing the team to look for an alternative.
Amid this, CBS Sports’ Sam Quinn has put forward a blockbuster trade proposal that would solve all the Warriors’ problems.
“There’s a very easy construction here. The Warriors would send Butler, Jonathan Kuminga, and Will Richard to Dallas. The Mavericks would send Davis, Klay Thompson, and Jaden Hardy to Golden State. The money lines up almost perfectly, keeping both below their hard caps and retaining roster balance. Dallas might not even need a pick to do this,” he wrote.

“There’s genuine value for them in getting Kuminga as an upside swing on youth and talent, and shedding multi-year deals for Davis, Thompson, and Hardy would help out their long-term books. And hey, Warriors fans could use something to cheer for right now. A Thompson return would accomplish that.”
The reporter pointed out that this makes sense for both teams. As the Warriors would get a reunion with Klay Thompson, who could give the Dubs some much-needed shooting.
This is huge because even though the Warriors lead the three-point attempt rate by a mile, they aren’t the best three-point shooting team in the NBA.

So, having Klay Thompson at their disposal will be great for the Warriors. While the veteran sharpshooter isn’t the player he once was, he’s still shooting 38 percent from deep. Meanwhile, Anthony Davis could help with the team’s frontcourt woes, which have been running rampant this season.

This season, the Warriors have struggled big time defensively, with a current defensive rating of 112.2.
So, the deal surely makes sense for the Dubs from this perspective. On the other hand, Dallas will get a young and high-ceiling forward in Jonathan Kuminga.
Nonetheless, the most interesting part is that this deal makes sense financially for both teams, which is quite impressive given that both Dallas and Golden State are hard hit by salary caps.

Nonetheless, this is mere speculation for now. But still, if the Warriors don’t make a move now, Stephen A. Smith believes the future isn’t too bright for the historic franchise.
Stephen A. Smith predicts a harsh reality for the Warriors
The Golden State Warriors cannot seem to catch a break right now. Despite winning a highly anticipated matchup against the Miami Heat, their superstar forward, Jimmy Butler, left the game with a torn ACL, sidelining him for the rest of the season. Given that the Dubs rely heavily on Jimmy Butler, if they don’t find a replacement for him soon, it would spell disaster.

“I think [Butler’s injury] means they go home in the first round,” Smith said.
Well, Butler indeed has been huge for the Warriors. He’s currently 20.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 4.9 assists. Now, without him, the Dubs will have a huge void to fill.

The February trade deadline is just around the corner, and the Warriors might just not have a replacement for Butler’s production. More so, because the six-time All-Star is well-known for his playoff performances. So, not having him will seriously hurt the Warriors even if they do find a replacement for the veteran.
Although, under normal circumstances, this might not be such a huge problem with the Dubs having a talented young forward in their ranks in Jonathan Kuminga, Smith believes that head coach Steve Kerr won’t be trusting him for the rest of the season, as trade rumors around him start to pick up pace.

“[Kuminga] is going in the opposite direction. We know it’s not because of his skill set; in all likelihood, it’s because of his relationship with the coach. Steve Kerr doesn’t seem to want him to play for the Warriors,” Smith further stated.
All in all, it seems like the Warriors will have to look elsewhere for a Jimmy Butler replacement, as we keep a close eye on any development in this situation.
