Last we heard of James Harden, he was left behind at the airport by the Sixers who were on their way to Milwaukee for their season debut game against the Bucks. After mostly being absent in team activities leading up to the preseason, Harden took another ten-day hiatus and went to Houston. Just before the Sixers departed for Milwaukee, Harden showed up, packed and ready to join the team.

However, he was told to stay back in Philly and make up for the time he lost by putting in the practice hours and getting his body in shape. However, there is still no clear-cut solution or decision regarding Harden’s tumultuous saga. All we can do at this point is speculate and wait for what the drama unfolds. The Warriors‘ ex-general manager Bob Myers finds himself in a similar position regarding Harden’s future, but he has some advice for Haden who, at this point, has been pushed into a corner.

Harden should’ve waited it out like Durant and Kyrie

Harden has found himself in a sticky situation. He has been throwing tantrums ever since his demand for a trade from the Sixers did not play out the way he wanted. With the season having already started, James is back where he started.

“It feels like his back’s against the wall, and he doesn’t have a choice right now. It feels like he’s pushed pretty hard and made his frustrations public, not shown up, not been complying with a lot of the things, but in the last 48 hours, showed up,” Myers said about Harden’s current condition on The Woj Pod.

Myers admits that it is hard to get into the mind of an NBA player. He believes history has shown that they are quite unpredictable. But the man has to say this, “Kevin Durant had a very public trade demand, then he came back and said, ‘I’m gonna play all year.’ Then he gets traded to Phoenix. I don’t think if Kyrie had asked for a trade, Kevin would’ve asked for a trade.”

All Myers is saying is that Harden should’ve learned a thing or two from Durant as well as Kyrie, who demanded a trade from the Nets, but came back and played for the season. Harden should’ve stayed put and complied with the team until a solution came to hand. But he went ahead and blew it all over, and now he is reaping what he sowed.

It’s unpredictable

As for Harden, the team and the fans alike are assuming that he is working hard in Philly; the idea is that he is putting in the practice hours until Coach Nurse decides he is ready to join the team on the court. Whatever happens next will happen in its own time.

As Myers points it out, “It all boils down to, “Hang on and see what’s going on next week, cos you just don’t know, these things change daily.”
