Bradley Beal Reveals Suns’ Biggest Mistake In Upset Against Victor Wembanyama-less Spurs

Kevin Durant and Devin Booker scored 65 of the Phoenix Suns‘ 102 points. However, as Bradley Beal failed to add big numbers, the rest of their starters scored 21 points in the game. On the other hand, the Victor Wembanyama-less San Antonio Spurs saw a better spread among their starters. Moreover, Jeremy Sochan recorded a massive 26-point and 18-rebound game, sinking a game-clinching bucket in the last minute.
The Suns, behind their big-3 and Wemby’s absence, clearly misjudged the Spurs’ tenacity. As the reporters probed Bradley Beal‘s remarks on the game, the former all-star replied, “We definitely laid an egg. We came in, thought it was going to be easy, no Wemby. We just got our ass kicked.” Beal further radiated that head coach Frank Vogel attempted to imbibe a better approach amongst the squad. However, the team failed to realize the threat Popovich led squad held. He said, “They came out aggressive, like coach told us they would, and we didn’t respond. We didn’t. Did not respond.”

“That’s a big win. That’s a big win,” Devin Vassell, who also added 26 points, yelled after the game; highlighting the nature of the squad’s recent feat.
After Sochan’s nail-biting three, both Kevin Durant and Devin Booker got their fair shot at a potential game-winner. However, the shock of the Spurs’ surge and the pressure amounted by the roster’s underperformance was enough for them to miss their mark.
Wembanyama sat out due to a sprained ankle. However, he will partake in the next game against the Utah Jazz, hoping to maintain the winning momentum.

The Spurs did their damage in the paint
It is natural to assume that the Spurs team would underachieve in the paint when Victor Wembanyama is not on the floor. However, they did the most damage near the basket.
The Suns outperformed the hosts in almost all categories. They shot better from the floor, and more threes at a higher efficiency. Moreover, matching the offensive rebounds at 5, the Suns had a 7 rebound advantage to the Spurs’ 40. However, the 7 blocks by Phoenix were not enough to stop the undermanned Spurs from rocketing to paint.

Moreover, their determination allowed them to garner 10 steals in the game, all while forcing a total of 14 turnovers. Had the Suns focused on capitalizing on Wemby’s absence, a win could have propelled them to the 6th spot in the West. However, they now sit at the 8th spot, 2.5 games ahead of the cruising Los Angeles Lakers.
