With Bronny James being draft eligible in 2024, NBA fans could witness one of the rarest moments in sporting history in the 2024-25 season. In its 77-year history, the league has never witnessed a father-son duo share the court. However, LeBron James and Bronny could change that if Bronny gets selected in the 2024 NBA Draft. But could LeBron’s eldest son, Bronny, take over the mantle from him?

While it is a big ask for anyone to follow in LeBron’s footsteps, many people have touted Bronny to continue his father’s legacy forward in the NBA. Before suffering a cardiac arrest in July 2023, analysts projected Bronny to become a lottery pick. However, these unfortunate circumstances could work in favor of the Lakers and LeBron, according to an NBA insider, Brian Windhorst.

Brian Windhorst recently made an appearance on the Rich Eisen Show. During a conversation with the host, Windhorst claimed Bronny falling in the draft could be a blessing in disguise for the Lakers. He said, “If Bronny’s potentially a lottery pick, the Lakers might not have a shot at him. If Bronny looks like more of a project and he slides into the second-round, it becomes much more feasible for the Lakers to acquire him… This becomes a cleaner process. It’s counterintuitive, but it’s one of the other facets that’s just fascinating about the situation.” While Bronny’s draft stocks have declined in recent months after the unfortunate events of July 2023, there’s almost 100% certainty that he will be drafted by a franchise because of his association with LeBron.

Following his congenital heart defect diagnosis, many people feared that Bronny might never play basketball. However, the 19-year-old made a swift recovery and was declared fit to play basketball in December 2023. He currently plays for the USC Trojans and is doing quite well for himself.
