Although it’s the offseason, if you want to get a glimpse of what’s to come later this year when the season starts, the Summer League is where you should be headed. The Summer League has helped launch several rookies, including Los Angeles Lakers guard Bronny James. Last season, the 20-year-old shooting guard made his professional debut in Las Vegas during the NBA Summer League. So, you might think that Sin City would have a special place in the second-year guard’s heart, right? Wrong.
Although Bronny James made his debut for the Purple & Gold during the Summer League, he isn’t a big fan of the league’s initiative to help the rookies. “My head is all over the place,” he told ESPN. “There’s so much going on in Vegas. I personally don’t like summer league at all. I like the competition and the games, but I don’t like coming to Vegas and being in Vegas … After this, I’m just doing nothing.” The young guard stated that despite good competition, he isn’t a big fan of the Summer League.
However, it’s not the competition with which LeBron James’ eldest son has a problem; it’s the Sin City where he doesn’t like to be. The 20-year-old stated that he feels like he’s all over the place when in Vegas. In fact, he went as far as saying that he doesn’t even like coming to the city. Nonetheless, despite having such strong feelings against the city, Bronny lit up the Summer League. The second-year Lakers guard stunned everyone with his performances. Bronny James averaged 14.3 points along with 2.8 rebounds and 3.8 assists.

Those are some insane numbers, to say the least. They certainly are dramatically better than in his rookie season. So, it’s safe to say the LA franchise will be expecting bigger things from Bronny James after seeing his incredible Summer League performances. However, while he’s shown flashes of his true potential, there’s still a lot to work on for the 20-year-old, especially because of the health issues he faces as a result of the devastating cardiac arrest he suffered while he was in college.

Bronny James admits that the life-threatening incident still affects him
We’re sure that you might remember when Los Angeles Lakers guard, Bronny James, suffered a cardiac arrest back in 2023? Although it’s been almost two years since that incident took place and the 20-year-old has achieved a lot, he still feels the lingering effects of that devastating incident. While talking with ESPN, Bronny revealed how the cardiac arrest he suffered has impacted his body and immune system. “I get kind of sick easier now,” He told ESPN.

The 20-year-old revealed that he gets sick much more easily than before the unfortunate incident. Not just that, he then spoke more about how he feels. “Which is kind of weird, but I think it messed with my immune system a little bit. So, I would have times where I have to sit out, and that conditioning that I’m working on just goes away in that week of me being out.” He added. The Lakers player revealed how that incident has made things difficult for him because at times, he has to sit out of practice, which takes away his progress.

Can Bronny James handle the pressure of being LeBron's son, or is the Vegas spotlight too harsh?

Even though this kind of setback would’ve easily impacted more, James has managed to fight his uphill battle and stayed focused. One thing that has helped him most during this difficult stretch has been his grateful nature. The second-year guard is happy to have a second shot at life and also at basketball, and is truly thankful for that. Nonetheless, his hard work and gratefulness seem to be paying off big time, as Bronny James hopes to have a breakout season in his sophomore year in the league.
