Nets Star Cam Thomas Channelizes Inner Kobe Bryant to Destroy Lakers at Home: “Means a Lil Something to Me”

Yesterday, the Brooklyn Nets pulled off a surprising win at the home of the Los Angeles Lakers. Going into the game, the Lakers had won their last two games, whereas the Nets were on a 4-game losing streak. But the form book went out of the window for this game, as the Nets put on a clinical second-half performance, to win by a scoreline of 112-130.

Contributions from players such as Spencer Dinwiddie, Nic Claxton, and Mikal Bridges played a vital role in securing the victory. However, Cam Thomas was the star of the show, as he recorded 33 points and 4 assists in 32 minutes of playing time. After the game, Cam Thomas shared his thoughts on the game and his performance. Thomas also revealed his admiration for the Lakers and Kobe Bryant, in particular. He said, “It is always good to play against the Lakers. Not really so like who’s on the team, but more so like, I grew up being a Lakers fan. Like a die-hard Lakers fan, Kobe fan. So, it always means a little something to me where I used to be a fan. So, it feels good.”

Cam Thomas has become one of the breakout performers of the 2023-24 season. Barring Mikal Bridges, Thomas has recorded the most points per game of any Nets player. He has recorded 20.2 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game this season. His performance against the Lakers will hold great significance for him, particularly with heightened emotions in Los Angeles as the fourth anniversary of Kobe’s death approaches.

Lakers to honor Kobe Bryant with a statue

26th January 2024 will mark the fourth anniversary of Kobe and Gianna Bryant’s death. At that time, the news of Kobe’s passing away sent shockwaves throughout the NBA. He is regarded by many as the greatest Laker of all time, and to honor his legacy, the Lakers have decided to unveil his statue on 8th February 2024–a nod to his jersey numbers of 8 and 24.

The bronze statue is set to be unveiled in Star Plaza, outside the Crpto.com Arena. Bryant will become the 7th Laker to be honored with a statue, joining the likes of Shaquille O’Neal, Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Elgin Baylor and Jerry West. In an interview with Baltimore Sun, Lakers’ president Jeanie Buss said, “There is no better place for Kobe to be honored with a statue than here, at the center of our city, where everyone can celebrate him and be inspired by his incredible achievements.”
