Charlotte’s Favorite Son Stephen Curry Finally Breaks Win Drought Vs Hornets

The Golden State Warriors recently faced off against the Charlotte Hornets. During their previous 10 matchups, the Warriors have never been able to establish a prominent win streak against the latter team, losing 5 of those matchups. However, the tides now seem to have turned for Stephen Curry’s team. By registering another win through a score of 115-97, they have now managed to win three games in a row against the Hornets. The Warriors hadn’t won a game at the Spectrum Center since February 2019. Therefore, the victory was an extra special one for the roster.
During the post-game press conference, Stephen Curry highlighted his thoughts on this recent feat. The player holds a special connection with the city of Charlotte, given that it is the same place where he grew up. Therefore, it’s always a surreal and unique feeling whenever he gets to play in his hometown.
“It’s definitely fun,” said Curry. “Lot of familiar faces in the crowd here and I get to see family and all that. It’s nice to actually win here, it’s been a minute since we did that. It’s a great night all year round”.

The recent matchup marked the annual homecoming game that Curry has been playing ever since he was drafted into the Warriors back in 2009. Just like most of the games, the four-time NBA champion took the offensive charge during this one, securing 23 points, 1 rebound, and 4 assists for his team. As his father Dell and his brother Seth looked on, he shot 4-11 three-pointers and 9-18 field goals. Thanks to the effort put forward by him and Andrew Wiggins, who delivered 20 points from his side, the Warriors have managed to defeat the Hornets on their turf after 5 years.

Despite having been with the Warriors since the beginning of his NBA career, Stephen Curry is not one to forget his roots. Given that his high school and college basketball careers originated in North Carolina, fans would have assumed that the thought of playing alongside the Hornets would have once crossed the mind of the veteran player. And surprisingly, it did.
Back in September 2022, Curry was honored by his hometown and the Charlotte City Council as he received a ‘key to the city’. During the ceremony, he expressed how he wanted to end his career with the Golden State but also highlighted how he has often been asked whether he would want to play one year for the Hornets. As the attendees began to entertain the possibility and cheered the player on, Curry felt that he had to clarify some things.

“I am not breaking any news right now; I’m not making any promises,” said Curry. “All I would say though is if there was a team that I did want to play for that was not named the Warriors, that (Hornets) would be it. That’s all I can say about that.”
