The Thunders ended their fourth final game against the Warriors on a high note on Friday at the Paycom Center. OKC won the game 138-136, tallying the score to 3-1 vs the Warriors. It was an intense game that was pushed to overtime thanks to OKC’s center, Chet Holmgren. With less than 20 seconds left on the clock, Steph Curry scored a clean 3-point, putting the Dubs in the lead.

Not more than a few seconds later, Holmgren was fouled while trying to take a three-point shot. He then went on to make all three of his free throws, equalizing the scores 118-118 and tipping the game toward OT. Well, the young star is celebrating spectacularly, digging up an old meme featuring then-young Kevin Durant and James Harden who were playing for the Thunder.

Mom made pizza rolls!

The original meme shows the youthful energy of the two stars, KD bending forward and balling his fists while Harden is sticking his tongue out and gazing up. Over this image were written the words, “Mom made pizza rolls.” Paying homage to the OG meme, Chet Holmgren posted a series of images on his Instagram, that depicts a moment of celebration. He is clenching his fists and screaming. In the caption, he wrote…. you guessed it, “Mom Made Pizza Rolls.”

Teammate Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who was the highest scorer in the game with 38 points, also took to Instagram to celebrate the win. Along with a series of pictures, Shai uploaded an old video that shows him struggling to spell the word official. Well, all of that doesn’t matter now because Shai captioned the post, “I was feeling like e-40 in the Bay, so i had to go dumbbbbb.”

The original image was by Mike Stone, a Reuters freelance photographer. At that time, he had no idea the impact it would have on the meme culture. It dates back to the Thunders vs Mavs Game 2 in 2011, where OKC clenched a 106-100 win. While Mike is credited with the image, nobody is sure who created the meme.

All we can do is speculate the meaning of the meme. Turns out, in an old commercial, some kids are playing outside when their mother makes pizza rolls, and they yell, “Mom made pizza rolls!” with excitement. Thunder was a young team back then, and from the looks of the photo, both KD and Harden looked pretty excited. That could be one explanation for the meme.
