Essentials Inside The Story
- Chris Paul once had a chance to play in the iconic purple and gold before the league vetoed the decision
- Fifteen yeas later, CP3 has a decision already set
- Although a Clippers legend, CP3 reveals another franchise as his favorite
Fifteen years ago, the league vetoed the decision for Chris Paul to play alongside the late legend Kobe Bryant in the Los Angeles Lakers. Now, he again stands a chance to connect with the purple and gold in a full-circle moment as his farewell tour was cut short. Seemingly, he has already given the opportunity a thought and made a decision.

“Na, na, na, they don’t,” Paul told YouTuber Tylil James after he suggested that LeBron James and Co. could use him as a backup point guard. “It’s a wrap. Curtains. Curtains.”
Just a month ago, though, CP3 was truly entertaining the possibility. Remember his “342” 3-point shots post with head coach JJ Redick’s tag? Apparently, that was a drill the former player used to do during his playing career. Now, it could’ve been a way for Paul to connect with the current Lakers head coach. And the way the team is going, they could use another veteran leader in the locker room and on the hardwood. But here’s where it gets messy.
First, Paul is 40 years old. With LeBron James already there, it makes little sense to add yet another player who will very likely retire next season. The Lakers are certainly looking to grow for the future. Secondly, with everything going on outside of the lines in the Lakers’ office isn’t exactly an attractive situation for Paul.
Still, crazier things have happened in the league. And Chris Paul to the Lakers could be a possibility. The eleven-time All-NBA guard, though, did not want to entertain any further rumors about him heading back to the court. That shouldn’t come as a surprise at all, either.
Chris Paul wanted to end his career in Los Angeles, being close to his family while also suiting up for a team he played some of his best hoops for in the past. However, that dream couldn’t come true for multiple reasons.

The LA Clippers cut him in early December for his difficult behavior and a habit of holding everyone accountable. Apparently, the young players didn’t like his leadership, and he didn’t see eye-to-eye with head coach Tyronn Lue.
Following this, he was sent to Toronto, which seemed to be a weird match. Nonetheless, at least he might get a proper farewell in his final season, only for him to get waived by them as well. Now, with the season heading to the final stretch, Paul has decided to finally call it quits.
Even though it might not have been the end he wanted, Chris Paul still had a heck of a career. And no one can take that away from the Point God. Meanwhile, this decision has also given CP3 plenty of time to reflect on his iconic career, as he even named the best franchise he played for, and of course, it’s not the Clippers.
Chris Paul reveals the best franchise he’s played for
While Chris Paul might be done playing in the NBA, that doesn’t mean his love for the sport has faded. The Point God will forever be one of the best to grace the court, as he now transitions into retirement life. Amid this, everyone was interested to know which among the seven franchises he played for over the 21 seasons in the league he liked the most, and his answer was quite surprising.
Well, you see, even though Paul had a legendary career, his legacy is a bit complicated because he never won a ring and only made the Finals once in his career. Also, he never really stayed at once play long enough.
While many might point out that the Clippers might be his favorite out of the bunch, that’s not the case. During the latest episode of Tylil James’ show, CP3 gave James a tour of his house. There was one item in particular that seemed to mean a lot to the veteran: a plaque given to him by the San Antonio Spurs.

“This is dope. The Spurs gave this to me last year,” he said as he showed off the plaque. “They were the best organization I played for.”
This is huge coming from Paul, who only spent one season with the Silver and Black. Despite that, he seemed to have created a strong connection with the organization.
Chris Paul had an amazing stint with the Spurs, playing in each and every regular-season game for the franchise as a backup point guard. That, on top of his connection with the likes of Victor Wembanyama, seemed to have struck a chord in his heart.
While he couldn’t lead San Antonio to glory or even a playoff appearance, as a matter of fact, Paul will forever cherish his time with the franchise, as he continues to support his former team from the stands. Meanwhile, his decision on retirement seems to be made for all we know.
