James Harden has finally gotten his ticket to the LA Clippers. This recent acquisition gives the Clippers an offensive juggernaut alongside Paul George and Kawhi Leonard. The perennial contenders are poised for yet another deep playoff run with their deadly squad. At the same time, it raises some questions about their depth chart and how they will fit Russell Westbrook into their rotation.

Former Thunder Westbrook reunited with Paul Geroge and he delivered. The former MVP and triple-double machine is a notoriously poor shooter and ball-dominant player. He has struggled to coexist with other stars in the past, such as Kevin Durant, and Bradley Beal. How will he adjust to playing alongside Harden, who is also used to having the ball in his hands and running the offense?

Westbrook thrived alongside LeBron James in LA, where The King controlled the ball. Harden’s play style revolves around ball dominance, and Westbrook’s shooting has been a concern. With Harden in the picture, Russell might have to accept a reduced role to even come off the bench for the Clippers to maximize their potential.

According to Fox Sports Radio analyst Chris Broussard, Westbrook’s lack of shooting would clog the spacing for Harden, Leonard, and George. As per him, they are all capable of creating their shots and scoring from anywhere on the floor.

He also suggested that Westbrook might not be happy with playing second or third fiddle to Harden again after they had a rocky relationship in Houston.

How can Westbrook fit in with the Clippers?

The Clippers could use Westbrook as a spark plug off the bench, similar to how the Oklahoma City Thunder used him in his rookie season. Westbrook could still play significant minutes and close games.

Clippers are planning to deploy various small-ball lineups in their first unit. With Harden, PG, Kawhi, and a choice between Norman Powell and Terance Mann clippers, possess a lineup that can effectively stretch the floor. Additionally, PJ Tucker’s ability to play at the center position allows them to counter big opponents.

Another scenario would be a lineup consisting of Harden, Tucker, George, Leonard, and Powell/Mann. This configuration bolsters the offensive charge but also maintains defensive versatility. Russell can take charge of the second unit and the Clippers can use Westbrook as a small forward or even a center in some situations. A close minute and a few minutes could also have Harden and Russ both on the court at the same time.

Finding the right balance would be crucial and if all the players stay healthy for the entire season. This could be their chance to emerge victorious from the West.
