The Los Angeles Clippers recently faced off against the Washington Wizards. While James Harden and Kawhi Leonard majorly contributed to the team’s overall score, shooting guard Paul George also played a major role in the final outcome by scoring 22 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists. While his performance seemed to be an indication that the player’s recent injury was no longer a matter of concern, the latest update seems to have caused a damper on that hope.

According to a social media post, Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue put out a statement in the aftermath of the game, highlighting that he is “not sure” whether Paul George will be able to play in both halves of the Clippers upcoming games against the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Milwaukee Bucks. While it wasn’t specified that this statement was made in light of George’s injury, there is a high probability of the same happening.

Paul George had been sidelined during the Clippers’ last two games due to reportedly suffering from an initial knee soreness ailment that has now been diagnosed as ‘left knee meniscus irritation’. The player’s absence during the previous two games was quite noticeable as the Clippers ended up losing both of those games without their small forward being present to lead them forward.

Although he had been listed as ‘questionable’ in the injury report released before the Wizards faceoff, PG still managed to make an appearance and contribute well. In a statement given out by him post-game, the player stated that “he felt good tonight and was able to walk out of the game clean with no issues with his knee”. With two contradicting statements making waves, fans will have to wait and see whether the 9x NBA All-Star will choose to opt out of any of the future games.

Will Paul George’s further absence hinder the Clippers’ championship chances?

Paul George has been a primary factor in the Los Angeles Clippers’ success during this ongoing season. Out of the 53 games in which he has appeared, the player has managed to average 22.1 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game. Along with that, he has continued to maintain a shooting average of 45.6% from the field. Given that the Clippers are currently ranked as the 4 seed on the Western Conference points table and maintaining that position is vital for them to qualify for the playoffs, it is important for the team to have its small forward/shooting guard available for the remainder of the games.

During the Clippers’ recent loss against the Lakers, James Harden did not blame any specific individuals. He did, however, blame “injuries” as the thing that was breaking up the team’s “momentum”. Through this, one can form the conclusion that if George’s knee soreness were to worsen, it would not bode well for the Clippers.
