The Women Who Shaped Curry’s Journey
From an early age, Curry was surrounded by strong women who played pivotal roles in his life. His mother, Sonya Curry, founded a Montessori school in Charlotte, where Steph attended from first grade through sixth grade. Sonya was also the principal of the school. She instilled in Curry the values of education and hard work at a very early age. Her powerful presence in inculcating these led to a firm foundation for his basketball career. Sonya’s influence on him was constant, something he humorously admits.
As he says, he “could never really get away from her”.
Curry also acknowledges the influence of other women in his life, including his aunt, who was his elementary school teacher, and his grandmother. According to Curry, along with his wife and sister, these women have never shied away from sharing their opinions and perspectives. It provided him with insights and shaped his worldview.
