The Dallas Mavericks have been on-the-up since Mark Cuban took control back in 2000. His savvy management of finances and human resources made the Mavericks a highly efficient organization. Due to his effective leadership, Cuban generated a return on investment of over 10 times his initial purchase. He acquired the Mavericks for $285 million and later sold his majority stake for an estimated $3.5 billion.

However, his tenure as the owner of the Mavericks hasn’t been without controversy. In 2018, reports surfaced about a toxic workplace environment within the organization. More recently, an entrepreneur criticized Cuban for his perceived mishandling of the situation.

This wasn’t a good look for the Mavs as an organization. However, Mavs’ fans can take some solace by the fact that the toxic culture was limited to the office side only. Reports suggested that the locker room culture was good, and the players treated employees with respect.

Recently, Mark Cuban also came under the media’s spotlight, after he and Elon Musk engaged in a X (Twitter) spat regarding the DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion) program. Due to their differing political beliefs, the two billionaires put forth their opinions. While Cuban tried to defend the DEI program with lengthy tweets, Musk called the new program the “definition of racism”. Leaving his political beliefs aside, Mark Cuban did a stellar job as the owner of the Dallas Mavericks.
