Days After “Dropping 85” Warning, LeBron James’ Championship-Winning Ex-Teammate Hunts for More Glory With Stephen Curry

The NBA season is just around a month away. The Draft, the free agency, and the extensions are done. Now, the training camp is approaching. However, some teams still have some spots left on their roster. They can fill them up with veterans for low asking prices or two-way contracts that give executives control. Therefore, free agents remain with some hope. 

In this wake, the Golden State Warriors are also interested in an experienced player. 

Will the Warriors and Stephen Curry land the veteran Center?

Dwight Howard earned a lot of praise when he went to Taiwan. Although the league is nowhere near compared to the NBA, the Center enjoyed his time in the Taiwanese League. He could play freely and shoot to his heart’s content. Apart from that, off-the-court experiences were both novel and jolly. 

However, his heart is still set on performing in the NBA. He still wants to be among the best. And what better way to win than to team up with Stephen Curry? Therefore, as per NBA insider Shams Charania, he is going to link up with the Warriors officials next week. The Warriors have been interested in a reserve big man and Howard can fit the bill well. 

According to Bleacher Report’s Jason Dumas, the Center is going to arrive on Monday. He will have workouts in the subsequent days. In the process, he is also going to meet both coach Steve Kerr and General Manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. Therefore, the commitment from both sides hints at a possible signing. However, those workouts and the talks are going to determine the course. Despite a reduction in his production, the veteran Center has played a crucial role. But he has had to change his destination a lot in the process. He has played for five different teams in the last six seasons. Sandwiched between them is a ring with the Lakers and LeBron James in the 2020 Orlando Bubble Playoffs.

Howard has expressed his willingness to play in the NBA and also for Team USA recently.

Dwight Howard is not done yet

After not featuring in the NBA last season, it looked like his career was over. However, the Center has kept title aspiring squads interested. For Warriors, as a backup to Looney, he can fill into a similar type of role. While big numbers may not come, he is still in excellent shape. That’s why, he expressed his desire to play for Team USA after their FIBA World Cup debacle. After the sub-par WC performance, many expressed that LeBron and Steph should team up for the Olympics. In the fantasy lineups, Howard’s name was missing.

He sent a voicemail to LBJ, pleading, “I like what I see but don’t leave ya boy out. If ya leave me out, I’m playing with Taiwan and I’m dropping 85. I just got back from Taiwan. I need to be on the redeem team. The ‘real’ redeem team”.  Howard was a part of the 2008 USA Team that won the Olympic Gold, often called the Redeem team.
