Kyrie Irving gets candid about parenting

Kyrie Irving has jumped ship four times in his NBA career. While switching teams is never easy for an athlete, it is not just them who is affected by the move. Their families suffer along with them. The Mavs guard divulged, “It almost feels like an impossible task. I think all parents feel the same because we want to be in our kids’ lives. You want to make sure we’re there for all their first steps, all their first accomplishments. You know some of the things that they struggle with, you want to help them out. All that is in the back of my mind, it’s always in my heart.”

The Duke alum added, “Then there’s the selfish me of just wanting to accomplish bigger goals and motivate myself and show an exemplary level of leadership for them, so they can strive to be in better places than I’ve ever been.”?

Kyrie’s goal to provide a better future for his kids is rooted in his own childhood. After his mother passed away when he was a mere 10-year-old boy, his father did everything in his power to help his son get to where he is today. Drederick Irving sacrificed his own career, so Kyrie could go on and rule the hardwood with his exceptional ball-handling. Speaking of sacrifices, it hasn’t been a bed of roses for Russell and Nina either.
