On October 8, 2025, executives from the Euroleague, NBA, and FIBA reportedly sat down in Geneva to discuss what could be the biggest shake-up in European basketball history. And the revelations from a deleted Euroleague post hint that Adam Silver’s vision for “NBA Europe” might already be closer to reality than anyone expected.

This was the second meeting between the parties in recent months, following an earlier joint announcement from the NBA and FIBA about exploring the creation of “NBA Europe.”

According to the deleted statement, Euroleague Basketball presented a collaboration framework proposal, which “to date, has not received any meaningful response.” While the Geneva meeting ended without additional details beyond the public information already available, the organization expressed appreciation to both the NBA and FIBA for maintaining an open dialogue and “for promoting and hosting the meetings.”

Representing its member clubs—who had met earlier in Barcelona—Euroleague Basketball reiterated that any future partnership must adhere to four key principles:

  1. Shared Benefit: All stakeholders must gain value, ensuring that existing organizations and individuals are not marginalized.

  2. Cultural Integrity: The identity, traditions, and fan base of European basketball must be protected.

  3. Competitive Excellence: Any initiative must sustain and improve Europe’s current level of competition.

  4. European Governance: Control over decision-making must remain within Europe to preserve the sport’s local priorities.

Euroleague emphasized its continued willingness to engage in discussions with both the NBA and FIBA, provided these principles remain central.

Several outlets report Paris could host two franchises (PSG, Paris Basketball among names mentioned), though no official confirmations have been released.

L’Équipe later reported that a key meeting in London could take place in mid-October, bringing together representatives from teams, investment groups, and commercial partners interested in the project. Sources suggest that some structural and financial details of the new league might be finalized during that meeting.
