What inspired Stephen Curry to join the NBA

During the conversation, Curry revealed a surprising fact about his father. He stated that his dad, Dell Curry, played 16 seasons in the NBA. Curry’s father was selected as the 15th overall pick by the Utah Jazz in 1986. Later, he was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers. After 16 long illustrious career in the league, he retired in 2002. The 9x NBA All-Star was 13 years old during that time. So, it must have almost been natural for him to watch his father play the sport and develop a love for it. Apart from basketball, he also played football and golf. Then finally in 2009, he was selected as the 7th overall pick by the Golden State Warriors. However, his father wasn’t happy about it.

Stephen Curry’s father was skeptical about his deal with the Warriors

There’s no questioning the perfect match that is Curry and the Warriors. However, the player’s father initially had doubts about the deal. Instead, he wished for his son to be selected for the New York Knicks.

In an interview with the New York Times in 2014, the 59-year-old former shooting guard said, “The Warriors had some questionable characters on their team. The Knicks really needed a point guard, and we felt that Stephen would fit perfectly with a coach like Mike D’Antoni, playing that fast, up-and-down style.”
