Nike rarely takes L’s, but when it does, the moment tends to stick. One of the most memorable came in 2013, when the brand botched its pitch to Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry. After wearing Nike for his first four seasons, Curry’s deal was expiring, prompting meetings with major brands. Yet during Nike’s presentation, a series of missteps ultimately cost them their future MVP.

The pitch went wrong after Nike executive Nico Harrison reportedly mispronounced Curry’s name (he denies the allegation) and made several other missteps. That opened the door for Curry to sign with Under Armour. Now, after 13 years, the two have split, and the move has sparked speculation that Nike could be looking to revive its relationship with the former MVP.

Has Stephen Curry inked a new shoe deal with Nike?
Well, following his mutual separation with Under Armour, there have been several question marks around Stephen Curry’s future in the shoe space. Amid this, a post that has gained serious traction on social media has claimed that the four-time NBA champion has agreed to a deal with Nike. “JUST IN: Steph Curry has signed a 10-year deal with Nike to relive his Hyperdunk SC30 PE, per league sources.” The post read which was posted by a hoops page called Box Score PH. But how true is that?
Although the perennial All-Star might be looking to partner up with a sportswear brand, there has been no confirmation or announcement by Nike or Stephen Curry. So, it’s safe to assume that the 37-year-old sharpshooter has not agreed to any new shoe deals as of now. More so, because the Golden State Warriors superstar, who launched his first signature basketball back in 2015, got a sub-brand by his name in 2020 by Under Armour. Similar to Nike and Jordan Brand, to “change the game for good.”

Now, after the athlete has parted ways with the brand, Curry Brand has become independent. So, there’s a chance that Steph might not collaborate with another brand and stay independent. Speaking of which, how and why did Steph and Under Armour decide to end their over a decade-long relationship?

Why did Stephen Curry and Under Armour split?
“It’s been an incredible privilege to work with Stephen, who as President of Curry Brand has been much more than an ambassador – he’s become a thoughtful and strategic business leader.” This is what Kevin Plank, founder and CEO of Under Armour, said about his brand’s partnership with the Warriors guard.
“Together with our teammates, he helped build something rare: a brand with credibility, community impact, and a product that performs at the highest level. For Under Armour, this moment is about discipline and focus on the core UA brand during a critical stage of our turnaround. And for Stephen, it’s the right moment to let what we created evolve on his terms.”
“We’ll always be grateful for what he’s brought to the UA team.” He further stated. A similar sentiment was also displayed by Stephen Curry, who expressed his gratitude toward Under Armour for betting on him when he hadn’t won any of his long list of accolades. So, by the looks of it, everything between the two parties seemed smooth. So, why break up?

While there’s no information on this, a possible reason might’ve been the brand’s restructuring plan. They previously disclosed anticipating incurring up to $160 million in pre-tax restructuring and related charges with its fiscal 2025 restructuring plan. However, following a review, the board of directors has approved another $95 million.

This includes the separation of Curry Brand from Under Armour and related costs. The company still projects its global basketball business to generate $100 to $120 million in fiscal 2026, noting that the split should not significantly affect profits. With Under Armour moving forward confidently, where do Stephen Curry and the Curry Brand go from here?

What does the future hold for Stephen Curry in the sneaker world?
As things stand, even though Stephen Curry is all set to become independent of Under Armour, the sportswear giant has planned a last ride with their superstar. According to reports, Under Armour will release Curry 13, the final Curry Brand and Under Armour shoe, next year in February as planned. Along with that, there will also be a few apparel collections dropping as late as October 2026.
But how will Curry proceed from there? Well, the Dubs veteran is now free to seek new partners and investments. However, according to Sole Retreiver, Under Armour seemingly owns the Curry’s signature logo. So, there’s also a slight chance that they might also own Curry’s entire footwear catalogue up until now, which could make matters quite intricate.

Nonetheless, as of now, these are mere speculations about with more information about the point guard’s deal with the brand yet to emerge. Still, you can expect Stephen Curry to wear Curry Brand shoes and nothing else, at least for a year, as he and his team will try to navigate this entire situation regarding his shoe deal.
