The prestigious May 2024 invite-only night at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City is in the headlines. Despite the packed list of guests, few names from the NBA world represented the league. Russell Westbrook brought his ever-stylish ‘why not’ attitude to the runway, while the event also saw Nikola Jokic and Dwyane Wade chiming in their best walk. Nevertheless, nobody came close to Ben Simmons, who drew eyeballs from the very first moment.

Ben Simmons, who has missed more than 100 games in the last 2 seasons, entered the Oscars of the East Coast with a Thom Browne exclusive. With a black suit, sequin, and plaids on the top, he held a huge briefcase with a clock, partially hidden behind his overcoat. Simmons, like plenty of other NBA stars, utilizes his clothes to express his mind, automatically opening possibilities for new combinations of styles.

However, Ben Simmons‘ outfit was inspired by the theme of the night, The Garden of Time, making certain elements of his attire apt to the moment. Nevertheless, during a time when basketball has to wait for Nets’ fans, forcing them to find solace in the Knicks’ playoff run, the franchise loyals came together not to spare Simmons from any criticism.

Ben Simmons was mocked over being forced to warm the bench all season

Ben Simmons’ sight immediately made headlines all across the NBA space. However, fans turned his pleasant night bitter, making sure to mock his Met Gala stint with everything he comes short of on the court. An individual immediately claimed that Simmons, through his irresponsible seasons with the Brooklyn Nets, “steals money from the NBA, then he steals a Met Gala ticket”.

Moreover, another emotional NBA enthusiast called Simmons “TRASH”, all while citing that the forward has the inclination to attend the Met Gala, but no urgency to step on the court, after only appearing in 15 games this season.

Another critic chipped in to highlight Ben Simmons’ long-standing battle with injuries, which has consistently rendered the point-guard-like forward to support his team from the bench. The fan sarcastically queried, “Does the Met Gala offer benches to sit on?”

Despite being one of the most skilled wings in the league, Simmons consistently struggles with shooting the ball. His broken jumper makes him a liability on the court as most of his points come from around the basket. With that, another fan claimed that his dressing sense is just like his “weird” play-style on the court.

Before the 2023-24 NBA season, he claimed he would redeem himself for his ongoing struggles by putting on one of his best seasons forward. However, Simmons only averaged 6.1 ppg in 23.9 minutes in a handful of appearances, marking the lowest of his career. Keeping that in mind, a fan taunted, “Wearing a clock when you ain’t clock no in game minutes this season is insane”

In a way, the fan’s bashing on X comes as a boon for the Nets forward, opening doors for him to know his follower’s latest thoughts. Currently, Simmons is recovering from his second back surgery and has no timeline for returning to the court. There is a possibility he will begin the coming campaign with better control of his game.
