The Milwaukee Bucks have experienced a whirlwind of changes this offseason. Following a disappointing playoff exit, they initially parted ways with their championship coach, Mike Budenholzer. Adding to the drama, their star player, Giannis Antetokounmpo, issued a challenge, threatening to leave the team unless he saw significant championship-level moves. In response, the Bucks secured the services of Damian Lillard, one of the most efficient scorers in the modern NBA. However, amidst the excitement, they had to bid farewell to Jrue Holiday, a key defensive asset with a championship pedigree.

While the Bucks now boast an impressive duo, the departure of Jrue Holiday leaves a considerable void. His contributions on the court were as crucial as Giannis’. Whether in regular season games or intense playoff moments, Holiday was a linchpin of their success. In light of this challenge, the new Bucks coach, Adrian Griffin, believes he may have found a solution.

A new addition is projected to fill Jrue Holiday’s shoes

The Bucks, like any other team, have undergone significant roster changes to remain contenders. One notable addition is twenty-six-year-old Malik Beasley, a former teammate of LeBron James. The Bucks signed Beasley this year in free agency on a veteran minimum contract.

As the Bucks cruised to victory in their preseason opener against the Chicago Bulls, Griffin had some words of praise and high expectations for Beasley. He stated, “We talked about this prior to this game. Kinda his role going into the season, that he’s gonna have to take the toughest assignment most nights.” Griffin also expressed satisfaction with Beasley’s defensive efforts, hinting at a possible starting spot in the Bucks’ lineup.

Beasley’s NBA journey has been a nomadic one so far. He has played for nearly three different teams in the past two years. Malik’s tenure with the Bucks marks his fifth destination throughout his career.

Giannis thinks the offense should run through Damian Lillard

Damian Lillard is a player who thrives on controlling the game himself. Last season, he averaged an impressive 32.2 points, 7.3 assists, and 4.8 rebounds per game, making him a natural choice to lead the offense. Despite having an ultimate shooting range like Stephen Curry, Lillard leans more towards maintaining the ball rather than breaking defensive through off-ball manoeuvres.

For the Milwaukee Bucks, this meant a need to quickly establish a prominent role that aligns with Lillard’s style to fully utilize his talents. In a welcome development for the franchise, Giannis Antetokounmpo recently weighed in on the matter.

As someone who averaged over 30 points himself last season, Giannis expressed his desire for Lillard to take control of the ball. Speaking to the press, he stated, “This is in no shape or form any competition between me and him of who’s gonna have the ball more. He will have the ball more. I trust, I believe he’s gonna find me. And not just me, he’s gonna find our teammates. We have to let Dame be Dame.”
