Los Angeles native DeMar DeRozan has long admired the basketball greats of his hometown. Among them, Kobe Bryant stands out as having had a significant impact on DeRozan’s personal work ethic and commitment to the sport. DeRozan openly credited Kobe for instilling in him the tireless pursuit of greatness, even inspiring him to work out as early as five in the morning.
While speaking to ‘The Athletic’, He said, “I got that from Kobe before I was in the league. I just stuck to it. And I laughed when I watched it. That’s exactly where I got it from, exactly where I got it from. It all started with him, just seeing his work ethic and how he approached it… It’s a mental edge that goes a long way. We finished two, three workouts before 10 a.m. Most guys are just getting up. And you have that mental edge right there.”
