Golden State Warriors‘ tumultuous season will take a long route to playoffs, that is, if they have any fuel left. The season began with the notions of the closing championship window on their star trio. However, this season’s struggles soon demanded experiments from Steve Kerr, be it opening lineups or the closing ones, several pieces saw the tip of the frontline.

Klay Thompson gained much of his lost touch through the trials. However, the biggest surge came from Jonathan Kuminga, who readily accepted the leadership role earlier this year. Kuminga, since January 12, went on a 10-game spree, posting 24.9 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 2.2 assists. An enormous increase from his 16.1 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.2 assists in the season. Regardless of what most fans see as a potential of bearing the Warriors’ torch in the future, Colin Cowherd predicts otherwise.

Talking about Kerr’s season-long experiments, Colin commended Stephen Curry for enduring all the tests. However, he then sneakily brings up Kuminga, stating, “Kuminga doesn’t have a closing package. He just really long and twitchy and athletic.” Moreover, picking from his observations on the court, Cowherd claims, “You put him around the rim, you give him the – he’s got somebody behind him, he doesn’t have any package. He doesn’t really know what he’s doing. He’s just talented.”

With that, the media personality claims that the Warriors dynasty, which dominated the past decade, is over and needs a major change. With that, Jason Timpf, the guest, backs up Colin’s remarks. Regardless, he then applauds Jonathan Kuminga’s ceiling, citing that the forward could be an all-star-level player in five years. With that, the two urge Steve Kerr to add a reliable shot-creator within the starting lineup this offseason, hinting at a failed run with Kuminga.

Who can the Warriors trade Jonathan Kuminga for?

Kuminga, as Colin exclaimed, is full of talent and potential. However, he still has inconsistencies in his production. A fine example of such is the Warriors’ last regulation game, where he failed to score a single point in 23 minutes of court time.

With that, if the franchise decides to part ways with the energetic forward, chances are that they would like to sweep in a stable big man. This brings Lauri Markkanen (Utah Jazz) into the picture.

Lauri can add layers to Stephen Curry and Klay’s splash brother duo, keeping the Warriors relevant to the evolution of the game. Like Steph and Klay, Lauri loves to operate off the ball and can also shoot off a dribble handoff; one of the Warriors’ favorite plays. Moreover, he has a smooth shooting touch from all areas of the floor, with his 7ft frame making it quite impossible to block his shot.
