Playing professional basketball is among the most high-pressure occupations. With crowds of fans cheering and attempting to disrupt, basketball players must concentrate on the game and block out distractions. One of the ways pro athletes heighten their focus is through music. Many athletes have intricate pre-game routines, which often involve listening to their favorite songs. Recently, Stephen Curry revealed his go-to playlist before NBA matchups.

In a recent post on Instagram, the Golden State Warriors superstar listed his favorite pre-game tracks. His list included bangers like “Standby” by Trip Lee and Hulvey, “First Person Shooter” by Drake and J.Cole, and “Misery Business” by Paramore, “Evil Ways” by Drake and J.Cole, alongside several other songs.

Apart from having a set pre-game playlist, Steph is also known for his intricate pre-game warm-up routine, which has garnered attention as its own spectacle. Curry’s 20-minute pre-game workout draws hundreds of fans to the arena 90 minutes before the game begins.

Curry’s pregame workout spectacle

For the past decade, Stephen Curry’s pregame routine has become a major attraction, with hundreds, sometimes thousands, of fans lining up 90 minutes before the tip-off to watch Steph’s otherworldly routine. In an interview with ESPN, back in 2018, Steph stated that began noticing larger crowds during the 2015-16 season. He said, “I really started noticing the bigger crowds toward the middle of the [2015-16] season,” Curry told ESPN. “I didn’t know what to think at first. It was strange, but I was humbled at the same time. It’s been kind of crazy.”

His pregame workout consists of some intensive dribbling movements like crossovers and between-the-leg dribbles, alongside shooting exercises. However, what truly mesmerizes fans are his 40-foot circus shots, which often steal the spotlight during his warm-up. But as his pregame routine gains more attention, Curry has adjusted it to ensure he can maintain focus before the game.

Before the Warriors’ 124-120 victory over the Brooklyn Nets in December 2023, Steph began his workout two hours before the tip-off – 45 minutes ahead of his usual timings. After the game, when quizzed about the adjustment to his workout schedule and whether it was to avoid distractions, Curry replied by saying, “For Sure.” HC Steve Kerr also gave his verdict on Steph’s change in pregame routine. He said, “I think Steph just wanted to get a little more space, a little more time between his warm-ups and game time. Simple as that.”
