Two teams were closely looked at during the trade deadline- The Los Angeles Lakers and the Golden State Warriors. Both teams have had a moderate campaign, nothing convincing to place them as contenders. Likewise, there were talks that they will stay active during the deadline, looking to make upgrades to the roster to prolong the window they have with their foundational stars, LeBron James and Stephen Curry respectively. Surprisingly, both decided to stay pat. However, a day before the deadline, there was a chance the two superstars could have joined forces.

There was a time around the period when King James was supposedly frustrated with the Lakers. It saw him have an outburst in which he refused to nurture his teammates after a tough loss to the Atlanta Hawks. “I don’t have any message for my teammates. Just go out and do your job,” James bluntly said.

It was followed by a suspicious yet questionable tweet. It was an hourglass, suggesting something big might be coming. The Warriors took this as a sign of him wanting out of LA. And they tried to pull off the ultimate trade.

According to Woj, there were conversations held between Jeanie Buss and Lacob a day before the trade deadline was extinguished. The Lakers owner remained adamant claiming they didn’t want to trade James. Even then, she asked him to contact Rich Paul, his agent to hear his status. Green, who is also represented by Paul also contacted the Klutch Sports man. He sent a text “soliciting his help convincing James to join him in Golden State” as Wojnarowski reported.

On the eve of the deadline, Paul gave the answer. Neither the Lakers nor James were interested in a trade to the Warriors. Just like that, the vision of Curry running the floor along with his long-time rival disintegrated on the eve of the closely watched trade deadline.
