The opening night of the NBA was filled with plenty of highlight moments as the Golden State Warriors took home a 119-109 win against the Los Angeles Lakers. While many of those moments included electrifying dunks and slick passes, the game also featured some ugly moments at the center of which was a Lakers star, who seems to have a reaction out of Warriors center Draymond Green.

The player in question is former Defensive Player of the Year Marcus Smart. The veteran guard, who wanted to make an impression in his first game for LA, ended up on the wrong side of things. That’s because during the 23 minutes the 31-year-old was on the court, he got back to his old flopping tricks. During the first occasion, Smart was seen falling onto the court after just a slight push by Jonathan Kuminga. While the official did see through the tactics on this occasion, that wasn’t the case the next time.

The second time, Smart pulled up a similar trick on Stephen Curry, and to everyone’s surprise, he ended up winning an offensive foul. While that did not affect the result of the game, it did lead many fans to criticize the referees. Draymond Green wasn’t letting Smart get off the hook so easily. “🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣” The four-time NBA champion commented on one of the Threads videos in which Smart can be seen falling down in quite theatrical fashion upon the slightest of contacts.

The LA guard had a night to forget, not just because of his hilarious flops, but also because he finished the night with just 9 points and no assists or rebounds. Although the Lakers have brought him in to provide some defensive stability for the franchise, he underwhelmed on that end of the floor as well, as he took things almost too far with Curry.

Video evidence shows Marcus Smart’s dangerous challenge on Stephen Curry

While Los Angeles Lakers star Marcus Smart’s flops were hilarious, not everything he did on the court was in a similar vein. That’s because during the game in which Stephen Curry looked at his imperious best, putting up 23 points, the veteran point guard’s night could’ve ended earlier than expected. The culprit? Marcus Smart, the veteran guard, was caught on video trying to take a cheap shot at the Golden State superstar, which could’ve ended up very badly.

In the clip, Steph Curry is seen defending Smart and two getting tangled up at the top of the arc. It was after this that Smart violently pulled him forward, twisting the point guard’s shoulder in an awkward position. This could’ve potentially ended with Smart dislocating the Golden State Warriors star’s shoulder and sidelining him for the upcoming games. However, the good news is that the officials spotted this seemingly dirty move and reviewed the possession. The result?

After review, Smart grabs, clamps, and twists the shoulder of Curry. That contact is unnecessary with a high potential for injury. It’s been upgraded to a Flagrant Foul Penalty 1.” That seemed to be fair, given that Curry could’ve been seriously injured. However, thankfully, the eleven-time All-Star did not appear to have taken any damage from the play. But that did not mean Curry did not do anything, as the two were spotted exchanging some words after the call.
