Draymond Green found himself in deep water again during last night’s game against the Orlando Magic. The Warriors forward got tossed from the game after getting two quick technical fouls within the first 4 minutes. Draymond’s first technical foul came after he allegedly bumped into the official. According to the NBA rulebook, that could lead to a one-game suspension for the former DPOY. Amid ambiguity about Draymond’s availability for tomorrow’s game, the news of Green’s possible suspension surprised Warriors’ head coach Steve Kerr.

During his appearance on 95.7 The Game radio show, Coach Kerr shed light on how the Warriors can avoid situations from escalating with Draymond like they did last night. Kerr claimed there were several players and security guys who could have stopped Draymond after the first technical, but that would have made him look even worse. So, it was up to Draymond to understand when to stop. Kerr also reacted to the NBA star, possibly getting penalized with a 1-game suspension for bumping into the referee. “I had no idea that there was a bump. I didn’t think there was a bump. So, this is the first I’ve heard of it.”

Kerr was surprised to hear about the penalty and said he had received no word from the league. The Warriors will continue their road trip tomorrow as they head to Charlotte to face the Hornets. Steve Kerr hopes Draymond does not get suspended for that game, as his absence could increase the Warriors’ problems amid the playoff race.

Steve Kerr blames himself for Draymond Green’s on-court antics

While Steve Kerr held Draymond Green responsible for his actions on the court, he also took partial blame for letting the situation escalate. While talking about how the Warriors could avoid such situations, Kerr said, “I actually am kicking myself a little bit.” The Warriors head coach believes Draymond has been good with the referees since his suspension, for the most part. He has managed to find the right balance between being competitive and not going overboard. However, Kerr claimed Draymond might have gone a bit too far with the officials during the game against the Miami Heat.

“I should have intervened. I should have talked to him after the game.” Kerr added. Maybe if Steve Kerr had talked to Draymond beforehand, he would not have escalated the situation during yesterday’s game. Kerr also revealed that Draymond realized his mistake after the game and apologized to Stephen Curry and the rest of the team. It will be interesting to see if the NBA adds to the Warriors’ problems by suspending Draymond for tomorrow’s game.
