The Golden State Warriors are one of the most successful teams in the history of the NBA, having won four NBA titles in the last nine seasons. Throughout this remarkable streak, numerous players joined and departed. Yet only four players share the distinction of winning all four titles with the Dubs: Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, and Andre Iguodala.
While Steph and Klay gained all the plaudits for their historic streak, Draymond quietly did the dirty work for the Warriors. His playmaking skills and defensive prowess played a pivotal role in their four championship runs. Furthermore, he is hailed as the emotional leader of the Warriors dynasty. However, after a tumultuous couple of seasons, Draymond was on the verge of leaving the Warriors this offseason.

Green could have joined the Grizzlies the past summer
In a shocking revelation, Draymond disclosed that he had the opportunity to join the Memphis Grizzlies during the offseason. During an interview with the Athletics’ Anthony Slater, Green said that he contemplated joining the Grizzlies for “an eensy-bit of time.” When the journalist further quizzed him about whether “an eensy-bit of time” means two hours. Draymond replied back by saying, “Just an eensy-bit,” bringing his index finger and thumb a centimeter apart.
Stephen Curry also believed for “a day” that Draymond might leave his only home in the NBA during the summer. However, Green had the final say, as he signed a lucrative four-year contract extension worth $100 million in the offseason. Green credited Joe Lacob (owner of the Warriors), Mike Dunleavy Jr. (General manager), and Kirk Lacob (head of basketball operations) for smooth sailing contract negotiations.

However, before signing the contract, Joe Lacob held lengthy discussions with Draymond. Lacob sought assurance from Green regarding the expectations associated with his contract extension. But a mere two months after securing his contract extension, Green faltered on his commitment to Lacob, as he faced an indefinite suspension for striking Suns’ center, Jusuf Nurkić, in the face.

Draymond Green revealed that he just froze once Lacob called him up after his indefinite suspension. He said, “I couldn’t answer it. I couldn’t talk to him … I almost hid. He gave me his word and he stuck by it. I gave him my word and I’ve let him down. It was probably a little cowardly. Like, I couldn’t face the music.” Despite the events of the past months, it looks like Draymond is back to his form and helping the Warriors by keeping his promises.
